Week 11 Summary
Scheduled: 35-36 miles
Ran: 22.5 miles
First week of running! Started with 2 miles on Monday. Shoulder didn't bother me so I did 4.5 miles on Wednesday and 6.5 miles on Thursday. The shoulder still hasn't been a problem, though the rest of my body is playing catch-up. Wearing the heart rate monitor, I see that at an 11 min/mile pace it's beating at what it had been at an 8 min/mile pace. How quickly we get out of shape! I had 14 miles scheduled for the group run on Saturday but I'm still ramping back up so I did 9 instead.
Group run notes:
About 30 minutes before the run:
Ate 1 piece of toast, 2 eggs
Drank 1 cup water
Team in Training group run
Weather: Snow on ground but relatively warm. ~35 F. Slight wind.
Attire: Blue & white Supernova Controls, short synth running socks, cotton boxer briefs, black synth warm up pants, blue synth long sleeve shirt, green GoLite synth wind shirt, black fleece hat, grey glove liners.
Arrived on time.
Some stretching during group announcments.
Stood in circle, announced name, event, planned mileage for the day, current pace.
Announced I had been sitting on sidelines for past month due to fractured collarbone.
Started running with a guy named Dave who asked about the collarbone.
Ran with him about 3.6 miles, then he started to run at a faster pace.
Ran the rest of the way solo.
Completed the loop, ran another 1.5 miles out, then back another 1.5 for a total of 9 miles.
Quite a few walkers and runners on the loop, bikers on the main road. Park was beautiful. There was one stretch about 1.25 miles before the start of the loop that passes through a field and overlooks the lake. View of geese and ducks swimming placidly on the water was great.
Walked to cool down and stretch at the picnic table. Ate two raisen bagels and drank ~16 oz of water + ~16 oz of Gatorade. Stretched in the shelter because the wind had picked up and was chilly.
People met:
Dave - Approximately 35 years old. Has 4 year old and 2.5 year old boys. Is a civil lawyer (defends other lawyers and professionals in malpractice suits). Ran the Chicago marathon with his wife in 2000, felt he wanted to do something for charity and get back in shape. Running the Bayshore Full.
